July 26-29 Hinchinbrook Island

Setup to hike the Thorsborne Trail on Hinchinbrook Island. 4 days, 3 night and 32Km of pretty hard going, but well worth the effort.

Hinchinbrook from Lucinda lookout (pity power line is in the way)

On our way from Cardwell by boat, hiking North to South

Already, the Hinchinbrook characteristic peaks are shrouded in cloud

Arriving at the very luxurious landing spot and start of walk in the middle of the mangrove
(Definitely no swimming)

Start of walk, looking south

The northern end of Hinchinbrook, looking up Ramsay Bay, for another day perhaps

Coming up to Black Sand Beach

and already the going is tricky

Climbed up to Nina Peak to get a view of the Island - south

and looking back towards the mangrove landing site and Ramsay Bay

Camping by the beach

and the mangroves

and always looking up to those cloud-shrouded peaks

Camp site

Looking down towards Zoe Bay

The track is very rough in places

Flora changes from Savannah Shrubs to  Rain Forest

and then swamp

with creek crossings

and some mud

but it takes us to Zoe Bay

what a view

We had a guest in our campsite

Dawn clouds

Zoe Falls and waterhole

Let's have a swim

Top of Zoe Falls

and looking north to Zoe Bay

Nice place to pull up for lunch

Heading towards Sunken Reef Bay for the night

slight water crossing to get there (hopefully no crocs)

and camp by the beach

What a view

Backup the ridge to the final stretch - Mulligan Bay

But 1st lunch and a swim at Mulligan Falls

Back in the rainforest

Mulligan beach

7.5Km final stretch... cinch!

 Mulligan creek crossing

Heard of drift wood? This is drift tree

Waiting for boat pickup at southern point

Bye bye Hinchinbrook
